At Daytripper Dog Training we teach you how to train your dog. We feel that it's important for you to develop the skills to teach your dog desired behaviours because, after all, it's you that lives with your dog. The methods we use are all positive, but don't confuse that with permissive. Dogs need guidelines and boundaries. Let us help you establish what works best for you and your dog whether it's your new puppy, your family pet or your canine athlete. |

Joan Weston of Fangs But No Fangs Behavioural Consulting Services is back at Daytripper for another educational seminar on dog behaviour. Multi-dog Households is a people only seminar that offers an in-depth look at multi-dog households and how to maintain harmony and happiness while the fur family grows. The first part of the seminar focuses on what to consider when you’re adding a dog to your family. Breeds, sex, drive and size can all factor into your decision. There is an in-depth look at the social structure of dogs and how both wolves and dogs form social networks and groups in the wild. How does this social makeup affect your group? You may be surprised by the answer. The second part looks at how to successfully integrate a puppy into the home with existing adult dogs. Techniques and methodology are discussed to keep harmony in the home while adding a new family member. From there, the seminar will give training tips and management skills required for adding an adult dog into the mix. Recognition of potential triggers for tension and aggression, body language and physical layout of the home are all discussed. The third part will look at some specific behavioural problems and what can be done to lessen or eliminate them, including possession, bullying or social aggression. Who should attend: Trainers, anyone who has a dog and is considering adding another dog to the mix, dog guardians that have two or more dogs, folks that foster or boards dogs in their homes, and anyone that is interested in continued education in dog behaviour. This is a “people only” seminar. Please leave your dogs at home. Registration: Space is limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. A completed registration form and payment will secure your space in the seminar. Click here for a registration form. To pay via credit or debit card, click the Add to Cart button below and follow the prompts. Please note that there is a 3% processing fee applied to all credit and debit card transactions.

PET FIRST AID CERTIFICATION COURSE
Date: Sat., Feb. 4 & 11, 2012 (must attend both days)
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Blackstock, Ontario
Cost: $185 plus tax (price includes manual/workbook)
What if your pet got hit by a car, was bitten by another dog, suffered a seizure, ate something poisonous, or stopped breathing? Would you know what to do?
Pet First Aid is not an alternative to Veterinary care. First aid is the emergency measure required to save lives, prevent further injury, and ease pain and discomfort until qualified Veterinarian assistance is obtained. In an emergency, first aid knowledge and skills can make the difference between life and death.
This 10 hour course is held over two half days and covers everything from prevention to treatment of illness and injury and how to keep your pet in optimal health. In addition you will have the opportunity to practice artificial respiration and CPR skills on “Casper, the CPR dog”. Casper is a lifelike, mechanical breathing dog. Individual-use airway/lung system eliminates cross contamination between students. Veterinarian review during the development of this unit assures the caregiver that they are learning exactly the right procedures for their cherished pets.
The Instructor’s dog will be shared amongst students for practice. It is not necessary to bring your own dog. However, those that are friendly and quiet in a crate are welcome. Please bring your own crate to the course.
Seminar includes a pet first aid manual/workbook. You must attend both days and pass open the book exam in order to receive a certification of completion. CCPDT members earn 10 CEU credits.
Lynda Kitson, Instructor
During the day, Lynda works in the corporate world. A great deal of her time has involved training people. She was a Dale Carnegie Instructor for 15 years, a True Colors Facilitator and also has a Certificate in Adult Education.
In the evenings and weekends, Lynda loves spending time in the canine world and decided to put her training skills to use helping people train their dogs. She soon discovered that the majority of dog owners had no idea what to do if their beloved pet became injured. This led Lynda to attain certification as a Pet First Aid Instructor through Walks ‘N’ Wags (formerly Oakland Educational Services). Pet First Aid is something she is very passionate about and believes it is an integral part of being a responsible pet owner.
Lynda has three Golden Retrievers and a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. Lynda loves doing obedience, rally, agility and freestyle with her dogs. She is also an associate member and volunteer with Golden Rescue. Lynda and her dogs are part of the Who’s Walking Who Woofjocks team and you’ll often see them performing at various events throughout the year.
Registration: Space is very limited for this seminar. Pre-registration is mandatory. Click here for a registration form and more details about how to register for this seminar.
